About the party
המפלגה הדתית-לאומית (בראשי תיבות: מפד"ל) הייתה מפלגה ישראלית ציונית דתית. המפד"ל ייצגה את הציונות הדתית והציבור הדתי-לאומי. היא חרתה על דגלה את הציונות, יהדות, תורה, אהבת ישראל ובעשורים האחרונים גם את ארץ ישראל השלמה. היא שויכה לצד הימני של הקשת הפוליטית. עד המהפך ב-1977 ועליית הליכוד לשלטון הייתה המפד"ל מקורבת יותר לצד השמאלי של המפה, והצטרפה לרוב הממשלות בראשות מפא"י והמערך. המפד"ל הוקמה ב-1956 כאיחוד של מפלגות "המזרחי" ו"הפועל המזרחי" ובשנת 2008 התמזגה למפלגת הבית היהודי, מפלגה שהייתה אמורה לאגד מספר מפלגות ימין, אך האיחוד נכשל ועם פרישת שאר מרכיביה הפכו מוסדות המפד"ל למוסדות הבית היהודי, גוף שלא נרשם ברשם המפלגות. למעשה, הבית היהודי הייתה מפלגת המפד"ל בשינוי השם.
